Assistant/Associate Professor, Nonhuman Primate Behavioral Neuroscience
The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences (School of Medicine) and the Emory National Primate Research Center (ENPRC), Division of Developmental and Cognitive Neuroscience invite applications from PhD, MD or MD/PhD candidates for a tenure-track position at the Assistant/Associate Professor level in the area of nonhuman primate (NHP) behavioral neuroscience with a focus on neuropsychiatry research. The ideal candidate will conduct translational research using cutting-edge behavioral and cognitive neuroscience approaches in NHPs to understand psychiatric processes and biology. Representative examples include behavioral neuroscientists who focus on computational neuroscience of decision-making and behavioral control, social cognition, neurocognitive decline and aging, neurodevelopmental disorders and developmental psychopathology, or behavioral/cognitive neurogenomics. Candidates using emerging neurotechnology and neuromodulation approaches (pharmacogenetics, optogenetics, deep brain stimulation), MRI/PET neuroimaging and/or electrophysiology to understand circuit functions of the primate brain and research programs that include the use of artificial intelligence and computational neuroscience will be strongly considered.
The successful candidate will join a vibrant intellectual community offering collaborations with faculty in the Departments of Psychiatry, Psychology, Neurology, Biology, and Anthropology and will have access to graduate students through the Laney Graduate School's Neuroscience and Molecular Pharmacology graduate programs, and the Biomedical Engineering program (run jointly by Emory University and the Georgia Institute of Technology). The ENPRC offers outstanding and unique facilities for behavioral/cognitive and brain MRI and PET research in NHPs, as well as core facilities for genomics and neuroendocrine assays, and access to large populations of socially-housed rhesus monkeys at the ENPRC Field Station.
